Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

This has got to be the ridiculous interview question! Canned questions warrant canned answers. And you know what?

The person that gives the best-canned answers seems the most qualified. HR Managers, it’s time to skip the theoretical or pointless questions and focus on the job-related skills.

How about having a conversation with the person, this would allow you to evaluate their true personalities and ability to adapt to the culture. You can teach anyone anything as long as they are open, motivated and sincere. I do not believe the typical HR questions get to the root of this.

Change scenery where candidates can feel more relaxed.

It doesn’t have to be overly formal. Improve the interview experience and hire the right candidates the first time. It’s very interesting how we have watched the evolution of the office workplace but the hiring practices remain outdated, ineffective and flawed.

We are still focused on archaic questions and talent is being wasted on a daily basis!
